Steve Davis says Port Vale have been dealt an early blow with their player of the year ruled out of opener.
Steve Davis says that Port Vale will miss the midfield creativity of the injured Michael O’Connor this weekend but the Crewe boss stresses that there are others that can come into the frame to replace him. Port Vale also added the former Yeovil Town midfielder Sam Foley this summer as well as our own midfielder Anthony Grant.
Steve Davis told the club’s official web-site that O’Connor, who is out with a knee injury, is a key player for the Valiants: “It is a blow for Port Vale to lose Michael because we know he is a good player and makes them tick.
“Saying that they have enough players to cover his loss. I worked with Michael when I first came here as the assistant to Gudjon (Thordardson) and I got on with him well. He is a good player and we go on fine before he was transferred to Scunthorpe.
“He was their player of the season last season and I know they were pleased that he re-signed for them in the summer. I’m sure they will miss him for the time he is out but they have other quality players to come in.”
