We Need A Consistent 90 Minutes

Steve Davis after a more complete performance against Walsall

Steve Davis has told the club’s official web-site that is looking for a more complete 90 minutes from his Crewe Alexandra side against Walsall this weekend. Crewe Alexandra will break through the 50 points barrier with a home victory and Davis is looking for a more consistent performance.

Crewe have performed admirably in the first half of recent matches against Leyton Orient, Chesterfield and Peterborough but have been unable to sustain that level of performance over 90 minutes.

The in-form Finnish striker Lauri Dalla Valle has scored early in games against Orient and The Posh but we have conceded equaliser and have had to settle for a point.

“Ahead of this Saturday’s home game against the Saddlers, Steve told us: “We have played well in the first half of matches lately but have been pushed in the second half. I don’t know if that is a physical or mental thing and it has puzzled us to how we can go from one extreme to another so quickly.

“We haven’t been able to deal with the second half pressure being put upon us and we need to deal with that much better.

“We have to try and stay on that front foot and continue to attack and create chances. We are still a young team with young players and sometimes they can find it difficult when that pressure is put upon them. It is then you need your more experienced players to relieve that pressure a bit.

“They are the experienced ones who can get you through. What we are aiming to do is to complete 90 minutes at the same level we showed in the first half at Peterborough.”
