This Team Is Very Capable

Alex boss says there is no reason why his team cannot upset the odds at the Abax Stadium tonight

Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis believes that his side are more than capable of getting a vital three points from our trip to Peterborough this evening. The Crewe boss feels his team can build on Saturday’s battling display by getting another positive result at the Abax Stadium.

The Alex boss was disappointed with aspects of our second half performance in the 1-1 draw with Leyton Orient at the weekend, but he was delighted with the way his players battled until the end to make sure we got something out of the game.

Steve was critical of the second half performance going forward, but he says he saw enough spirit and determination in the group to act as a real positive heading into the last four games of the season.

Ahead of the trip to Peterborough, Steve told crewealex.net: “I thought we showed some battling qualities in that second half against Leyton Orient. We didn’t play particularly well in that second half and we surrendered possession too easily at times but the boys dug in and made sure we didn’t get beat.

“They are still a young group, learning the game and that is tough when you are down there, but they kept going and we got a point.

“What has been frustrating in recent games is that we have not been able to replicate the performance we produced at Sheffield United. That has been our problem all season. We have only been able to follow up one good result with another on a few occasions.

“The players have shown they can do that and be consistent because we did well leading up to Christmas and then into January. That gave us a real chance.

The boss added: “It would be nice to go to Peterborough and get a result. The players are capable of pulling it off. I haven’t lost any faith in them not being able to go to places and get a result. That will be the aim this week and we go there in a positive frame of mind.”
