Crewe to wait on Atkinson and Ness

Crewe Alexandra midfield players Chris Atkinson and Jamie Ness will undergo scans today to assess the extent of the injuries they sustained against Leyton Orient on Saturday. Ness failed to appear for the second half after picking up a slight calve strain and was replaced by Liam Nolan.

Five minutes into the second half, Atkinson was unable to continue and without another recognised midfield player on the substitutes’ bench, Steve Davis had to turn to another striker in Uche Ikpeazu. That altered the formation with Crewe often playing with just two young midfield

players.

Steve Davis told the club’s official web-site: “Chris and Jamie will go for a scan today but we still believe they have a chance. We are hopeful that they will be able to travel to Peterborough with us tomorrow.

“I had to make two enforced changes which I don’t like to do because it can disrupt things. We only had Liam available from the bench so we had to change what we had to do.

He added: “We had two young ones in there, who don’t have too much experience at this level but they all battled through it and we picked up a good point.”
