Deano Has Got Crawley Going

Steve Davis previews this Good Friday's meet with Deano's Red Devils

Steve Davis is hopeful that last weekend’s unexpected 2-1 win at Sheffield United will give his squad another injection of confidence heading into the Easter programme against Crawley and Chesterfield, but he is fully expecting a different type of game against Dean Saunders’ side on Good Friday.

Ahead of this Friday’s meeting with Crawley, the Alex boss told the club’s official web-site: “We are hopeful that the result at Sheffield United will give us more confidence but we have said that before this season. You never quite know what will happen.

“It should give us confidence because we have gone to one of the biggest clubs in this division, put a performance on and won the game in the last minute.

“It will certainly be a different type of challenge against Crawley on Friday. It will be a different type of opposition. Dean (Saunders) has really got them going and they had won three on the bounce before they lost to Gillingham last week.

“They will be a bit more direct than Sheffield United but Dean is after results and it was paid off for them. They have gone on a great run to get out of it. They fell back into it at the weekend but they are still capable of getting out of it. They have given themselves a real chance and they deserve great credit because a lot of people had written them off.

He added: “It will be a different type of atmosphere at home than at Sheffield and we need the fans behind us. It is a real fight now with 7 games left and if that doesn’t matter if you are going for a play-off place or fighting to survive.”
