Boss delighted with Colclough's impact in the run-in
Steve Davis is hoping that another of his Academy graduates, Ryan Colclough, can have a similar impact this Sunday to the one he had at Coventry last weekend. The 20-year-old from Stoke-on-Trent was recalled to the starting line-up ahead of Nicky Ajose and helped create the first goal for Lauri Dalla Valle and then scored the second himself in a vital 3-1 win at the Ricoh Arena.
The forward, who started behind the front two, before doing some more damage out on the left hand side, completed 80 minutes before being replaced by Liam Nolan. Colclough has only recently returned from a serious hernia and hip injury but he has made a telling contribution in the run-in. He famous secured a first ever win at Bramall Lane with a stunning late winner against Sheffield United last month.
Steve Davis is hoping we will see more from our potential match winner this Sunday. Crewe need a point to be certain of playing League One football again next season.
Steve told the club’s official web-site: “Ryan is one our own and he is a potential match winner for us. He has the ability to produce something out of nothing.
“He is still not 100% fit after all the football he has missed, but he finding his feet again and has shown that he is capable of creating and scoring goals for us.
The boss added: “His finish at Coventry was exceptional with his left foot. He came on to it at an angle and dispatched it superbly well. He made a big difference to us last weekend and there is more to come from him.”
