Tonight's game too soon for Matt Tootle?
Club captain Matt Tootle is unlikely to be risked for tonight’s clash against Peterborough. The experienced defender recently made his comeback for the club’s Under-21s, playing 60 minutes and then 75 minutes respectively in the space of three days, but the Alex boss still wants him to complete 90 minutes before he will be considered for a first team return.
The right-back has been restricted to just 18 appearances this season due to an ankle injury and he has not featured for the first-team since the end of October.
Tootle is likely to play in the Under-21s final game of the season against Sheffield Wednesday at Reaseheath tomorrow to only improve his match fitness. If he can come through unscathed then he will be available for first-team selection for the visit of Walsall on Saturday.
Steve told the club’s official web-site: “Matt has been for a long time but he has been in my thoughts ever since he was injured, but he has only played two games since coming back last week and I would like him to get 90 minutes under his belt.
“We will continue to assess him and see how he is. The Under-21s have a game this week, so if he can come through that then we will be available for the last three games for us.”
