Boss After Blades Repeat

10 April 2015

Steve Davis demands another hard working and spirited performance

Steve Davis says he is after a repeat of our recent performance away at Sheffield United against Leyton Orient this weekend. Crewe are currently locked on 46 points with the Londoners and three points tomorrow would go a long way to making the winners remain in League One for next season.

Crewe won 2-1 at Bramall Lane before Easter and but followed that up with a goalless draw at home to Crawley on Good Friday and narrowly lost 1-0 at Chesterfield on Monday afternoon.

Steve says that the level of performance and hard work at Bramall Lane paid off with a first ever away win against the Blades and the Crewe boss says that if his team can reproduce that level of performance then they will more than match Leyton Orient.

Ahead of this weekend’s home game against the O’s, Steve told crewealex.net: “As a coach all you can ask your players to do is to work hard and to play well. If you can get that combination as an individual then collectively the rest should take care of itself. If you can do that then you have a good chance of getting a good result.

“We did that as a team against Sheffield United. The odds were against us, but they all worked extremely hard and played with some real confidence. I couldn’t pick anyone out in that game because they all played to their potential on the day.

“Over the season we haven’t done that enough and it is that level of consistency that every manager strives for. On certain days we have competed with some of the top teams in this league and on others we have looked to be one of the worst teams in the league. That is the group we have and we have to be realistic with that.

He added: “It is a very tough league and I would imagine the ten managers and clubs who are still involved in the battle to stay up will be saying the same thing. We are more than capable of doing it. I think the games are there for us and there are winnable games there for us.”
