Atkinson Will Come Back Stronger

Steve Davis says midfield competitor will be ready to go again in pre-season

Chris Atkinson has endured a frustrating first season at Crewe Alexandra but boss Steve Davis is sure that the combative midfielder will come back stronger next season. Atkinson’s season ended with a dislocated shoulder against Walsall at the weekend but the likeable 23-year-old is determined to attend the club’s remaining two matches of the season.

Atkinson, who had recently regained his place in the club’s starting XI has made 23 appearances this season in all competitions.

Steve Davis told the club’s official web-site: “Chris has had an up and down season and that has been affected by one or two injuries. He has had some problems with his hamstring and then he suffered that shoulder injury on Saturday which has ended his season.

“He made a tackle and the lad has landed on him and put his shoulder out. It was unfortunate and we are gutted for him because he had worked hard to get into the team and has played well.

“It is another set-back for Chris but he is strong mentally and he will come back stronger next season. He will be with us for pre-season and he will be eager to start next season well.

He added: “Chris can’t drive at the moment because of his injury but he is determined to come and watch the games and that is great to know.”
