Under-21s Suffer Defeat

8 September 2014

Colchester win 3-1 at Gresty Road

Crewe Alexandra's Under-21 side suffered a 3-1 defeat at the Alexandra Stadium to Colchester United this evening. George Cooper was on target for the Alex to give us a 25 minute lead but the visitors hit back just before half time and went on to win the game with two more goals in the second half.

The likes of senior players, goalkeeper Scott Shearer, midfielder Chris Atkinson and full-back Greg Leigh all played 90 minutes.

Crewe had their chances in the second half as well with Cooper shooting just over and Andre Brown forcing a good save after a forceful run across the box. The Alex trialist Stephane Zuber also headed a corner onto the top of the netting.

Cooper was in the right place at the right time to convert a John Johnston cross at the far post. The former Leek winger showed great skill and purpose to create the opening goal after Cooper had initially found him with a wonderful cross-field pass. The impressive Cooper also went close after a subtle touch had taken him clear of the Colchester back line but his shot was just turned around the Colchester goalkeeper. Callum Saunders also went awfully close with a smart turn and shot in the first half.
