The Boss talks after sealing a point in Somerset

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis spoke of his delight in securing a resilient point after a 1-1 draw on the road at Yeovil.

Billy Waters put the Alex ahead just after the hour mark in Somerset, but the Glovers equalised ten minutes later. The home side threw the kitchen sink to try and secure a maximum return, but Crewe refused to budge and held out.

“We had a long journey down and we tried to prepare the best we could,” said Steve. “We didn’t make many chances so we were relying on the forwards to do well, and they did.

“I’m glad the point didn’t get away from us tonight because we fully deserved it. We had to hold on a bit at the end, but we defended well on the whole. We found it hard to hold on to possession late on because of how hard the players had worked, but we held firm.

“We’ve been asking for Vadaine to work hard harrying defenders and he got his reward for that. He then had one thing on his mind and that was to shoot, the keeper parried it out and there Billy was to tap it in. You give him those chances and we know that’s what he can do.

“We’re delighted to get back-to-back results, however they come. We’re working hard to try and claw our way out of where we are, and coming here was another step.

“If we can carry on working as hard as we did tonight, and maybe improve a bit with our quality, on the pitch and to the squad, then we’re going to be ok.”
