Time to move forward after out-of-contract starlet joins Bolton

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis is pleased that the club can now move forward after the long and drawn out saga involving Max Clayton has now be resolved. Free agent Clayton, 20, signed for Bolton Wanderers yesterday after the two clubs reached an agreement over compensation. Clayton had rejected Crewe Alexandra’s attempts to re-sign him on a new and improved contract.

Davis is just relived that the complicated move has now been sorted to suit all parties. The Alex boss said: “I am happy that the Max situation has finally been resolved. It has been going on for many months, too long and now it is concluded we can move on and do what is right for Crewe Alexandra.

“Max has got his move and we got a decent amount of compensation as well. It was important that the club stuck to a price because he was here since he was six years old. Both parties will be happy and it will be interesting to see how he does. Dougie (Freedman) has liked him for a while and can his potential. He has given him his chance.”
