Rochdale JPT Paper Review

3 September 2014

What the papers made of our JPT humbling...

The Sentinel
IT was a night to forget for Crewe Alexandra as another disappointing display contributed to them crashing out of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.
Just as they had done two weeks previously in the league, an incisive Rochdale display saw them run out comfortable winners in South Cheshire thanks to goals from Matty Done, Peter Vincenti and Calvin Andrew.
It was the Alex’s seventh defeat already this season and they now go in to a 10 day break hoping to find some much needed confidence ahead of their game with local rivals Port Vale.
A lack of goalscoring opportunities and tempo to their attacking play will have again disappointed Steve Davis who saw his side struggle to carve out any real goalscoring opportunities.

The Chronicle
Not even vanishing spray would be enough to wipe away the memory of this performance.
Restricted to the bare bones with international call ups for Marcus Haber, away with his native Canada, and George Ray, joining up with the Wales Under-21s , the Alex fell to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Rochdale.
It all makes for grim reading.
Out of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy, out of the Capital One Cup, pointless in League One and an 8-2 aggregate loss to Dale this season.
On Tuesday night, boss Steve Davis craved that bit of magic but the only tricks on show came in the form of a can from the referee's holster.
In truth, the Railwaymen have the capacity to play some neat and tidy football at times.
But too often promising moves would break down in the final third.
