Steve Davis says players are determined to put end to disappointing start

Steve Davis and his dressing room are as determined as ever to turn our season around as quickly as possible. Crewe are bottom of the League One table at the moment and without a point, but a defiant Davis says that even more hard work will see us get ourselves going again sooner rather than later.

The Alex squad will have a free weekend from matches due to our three International call-ups but Davis will use the spare Saturday to bring his squad in for a behind the scenes practice game between his own personnel to work on a few things.

Davis is searching for that winning formula and admits that it will only come about through unity both inside and outside of the club.

Steve admitted to the club’s official web-site: “There two groups who can turn our season around and that is the management and the players. We know it is down to us and it is my job to try and get the best out of them again.

“I know what they are capable of. I see it every day in training. If results were determined between Monday and Friday then we would be right up there because this group of players work exceptionally hard in whatever they do.

“Some of that hard work and their good performances haven’t been rewarded this season. We were outstanding against Bolton and still lost the tie in the extra-time. We were not so good against Gillingham and Rochdale and we have to try and find the reasons behind them. Not the excuses but the reasons.

“We will only do that through hard work and sticking together. I am 100% convinced that they will come through it. A lot of the same players here proved it last season when virtually everyone wrote us off at Christmas.

“We have got to show the same resolve and grow stronger as a unit. It has been a tough start and not one we expected, but there is time there for us to improve and turn things around. Of course, getting points on the board as quickly as we can would help everything.

The boss added: “We will use this mini-break in our season to work with the players, speak to them one-on-one and as a group and try and rebuild any lost confidence, but the players have trained well and the response since Tuesday night has been very good.”
