Davis played in the Football League Trophy Final as a Burnley player in 1988 and of course, won the competition in its Johnstone’s Paint Trophy guise in 2013.
Ahead of our Northern Section match against Rochdale this evening, the Alex boss said: “It is a competition I’ve always wanted to win as a player and a manager. I reached the final as a player and we managed to win it in 2013.
“I have always taken cup competitions seriously and I want us to be competitive. I will pick the strongest team I have available. We have lost a few because of the International calls-up and the fact that we have a few injuries as well, but I will put a strong team out.
Steve added: “We want to do well in the competition and go as far as we can. I won’t be throwing anyone in because there is no reason for us to do that. We want to get back to winning games and although the 16 may pick itself, we will be strong and looking to get through.”
