Dutchman Worth Another Look

25 September 2014

After impressing for the club's Under-21s Crewe are set to invite Denzel Slager back for extended trial

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis has told the club’s official web-site that he is keen to invite Dutch striker Denzel Slager back for a longer trial period after the former RKC Waalwijk player impressed during his first stint with us. Slager, who has also spent a brief time at Coventry City last season, scored a super solo goal for the club’s Under-21 side in a 3-1 win over Huddersfield Town.

The club are trying to sort out some more appropriate dates for the 21-year-old to return to South Cheshire for a few weeks.

Steve has admitted that his staff are interested in assessing his potential over a longer period.

The boss told creweale.net: “I think Denzel is coming back for a period of time, we have offered him that chance to come back for a longer period to have a look at him because he was only here for three or four days and played in that one Under-21 game.

“He is a Dutch boy and he showed some ability, showed some great skill and scored a great individual goal.

“He’s played in the top league in Holland, but only made a few substitute appearances and scored once, so he’s worth a look.

The boss added: “He was at Coventry briefly last season but didn’t stay long, it would be interesting to find out why, but certainly from what we’ve seen he showed great ability and worth another look."
