Difficult To Name A Settled Side

Steve Davis says hard to name same eleven when we are inconsistent with results

Steve Davis says that a lack of consistency is preventing him from playing a settled side each week. The Crewe Alexandra boss admits that it is difficult to retain a settled side if the team are on the receiving end of defeats.

Crewe will be aiming to bounce back from Saturday’s 3-0 defeat to Colchester United when they host Shaun Derry’s Notts County at Gresty Road. The re-arranged match is Crewe’s game in hand as they aim to stay in touch with the clubs currently outside of the drop zone.

Ahead of tonight’s match against the Magpies, the Crewe Alexandra told crewealex.net: “It is difficult to name a settled side at the moment because we are too inconsistent.

“We virtually picked the same group of players for the Port Vale and Yeovil games and then again for the MK Dons. We had two good performances and results and then lost 6-1. Maybe that was a game too far for them in a short space of time.

“When you lose 6-1 and don’t perform then the players who are out of the team are entitled to ask for a chance. That is how it works and the players here know that they have to play consistently well to keep their place.

The boss added: “I always try and give a player another chance if they have a bad day. I think they deserve a chance to redeem themselves and I think we have given all of them a chance to stake a claim.”
