Davis: "I Understand The Fans Frustration"

30 September 2014

Steve Davis says he feels for the fans after Crewe's disapppointing start to the new season

Steve Davis has told the club’s official web-site that he understands the supporters’ frustration following our disappointing start to the season. Crewe Alexandra will be aiming to obtain only their second league win of the season when Notts County visit the Alexandra Stadium for a re-arranged fixture.

The original date in the diary had to be postponed due to Crewe having three players called up for International duty and Davis will be hoping his players can use the spare game to make up some ground on those ahead them in the League One table.

Steve told crewealex.net: “The fans have been brilliant with me ever since I came here and I understand their frustration and disappointment at the moment. I am like them on a Saturday night when we have lost.

We have a young group of players and they need encouragement to help them.  “I cannot control what they shout from the terraces on a matchday. All I can control is what goes on inside the club.

“If we do get flak then we have to be strong and accept it because it is the same wherever you go. When things are going well you get some praise and when it is not going well then you are subjected to criticism.

“What you need to be is a strong character and face up to it. You can’t duck it and use that experience to make you stronger.

He added: “What we will do is keep fighting. There is plenty of fight in me and then there is plenty of fight in this squad. We have made a poor start to the season but there is enough time left to turn it around. We did it last season and came through it and we need to work hard to restore confidence.”
