Matt Tootle targets morale boosting performance and result this weekend
Matt Tootle says this weekend’s local derby against Port Vale is the perfect fixture for Crewe Alexandra to get their League campaign up and running. The club captain admitted earlier this week that when he accidently caught sight of the current League One table it ‘made him sick to the stomach.’
Now the 23-year-old skipper is certain him and his team-mates can put a disappointing start behind them and start to pick up some league points.
Ahead of the home clash with the Valiants, Tootle told us: “I think the little break came at a good time for us. Now we have to go again.
“There would be no better time to get our first league win of the season than Saturday. Everyone here knows how important the Port Vale game is.
“The players have got together and had a meeting about how we can get ourselves going.
“I seriously don’t think the derby couldn’t have come a better time. I thrive on these type of games and hopefully we can put a good performance on and get a result for ourselves and for the fans who have stuck behind us and got behind us at the game when things haven’t been going well.
Last season’s Player-of-the-Year added: “We need a result and it will be two teams fighting it out for some confidence because Port Vale have lost a few of the bounce as well. With the Port Vale game, form comes off the table – it’s about who wants it more and our lads cannot wait for it.”
