Boss Still After Fresh Faces

17 September 2014

Steve still targetting more firepower to help his options

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis will continue his search for 'fresh faces' to bolster his squad. The Railwaymen’s recent return of four points from the last two games has not changed his desire to bring in two or three new players to improve his options, especially in forward positions.

Davis and his staff worked extremely hard to bring in reinforcements ahead of our meeting with local rivals Port Vale, missing out on Sheffield United defender Andy Butler, after he elected to return to Walsall on loan.

The Alex boss admits he endured a frustrating build-up to the derby game and he understandably put things on hold as the Port Vale and Yeovil games approached. He will step his search again this week.

Steve told crewealex.net: “It was a frustrating week because we declared an interest in about four players and they moved elsewhere for various reasons. One wanted to be closer to home. One of them didn’t want to move to a League One club outside of the top ten. They are the sort of things you are dealing with and it can be tough.

“We have deliberately gone for a better standard of player to improve us and when you do that there are going to be other clubs in for them. The competition increases and some of the other clubs can pay more and can be more attractive.

“But we will still aim to bring them in. We know we need a couple of forward players and a bit of cover at the back.

He added: “The board know I want to strength the squad and they are happy to back me. Two or three faces would help us.”
