Steve Davis steps up search for winger and centre-forward
Crewe Alexandra Steve Davis has told the club’s official web-site that he has received numerous phone calls and text messages in regards to the availability of players. Following the 3-0 defeat to Rochdale on Tuesday evening, the Alex boss proclaimed that his young squad needed some 'assistance' and 'a lift' as we try and get our League campaign up and running.
The Alex boss is eager to bring in two or three new faces and has already taken a look at the experienced Bournemouth defender Stephane Zubar with a view to taking him on loan. The 27-year-old centre-half is currently training with the club.
Davis has welcomed the short break due to our three International calls-up, and he is working hard to bring in reinforcements with another winger and centre-forward top of his priority list.
Steve Davis told the club’s official web-site: “It will be good to have a break and it has given us some time to assess things. It will give us a chance to assess the first month and look to improve.
“When you are having a difficult time, you have to get your head down, work even harder and do the extra. The players have responded this week. They are working really hard and I’m 100% behind them. We can turn this around by sticking together, like we did last year.
“Neil (Baker) is out today watching games and I have taken numerous phone calls and texts about players. There have been some interesting conversations there and I will crack on with them today and over the weekend and hopefully we will have one or two new faces in by next Saturday.
“We are looking at Zubar at the moment to see if he is the right person we need. We could do with some cover there as Harry (Davis) is a few weeks off yet. I thought he would have been back a bit earlier.
“We nearly lost George (Ray) with his head injury and with him being away on International duty left us short. Jon played there on Tuesday and he isn’t quite ready to play there yet.
The boss added: “I am still looking for two to improve us in the final third. I want a winger and a centre-forward, who would come in and give us that lift.”
