Steve Davis after two proven players at this level to help squad

Steve Davis has told the club’s official web-site that he will look to bring in players with a proven track record at this level to help his squad going forward.

Rochdale knocked Crewe Alexandra out of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy last night with a 3-0 home win at Gresty Road.

Davis has been chasing two or three reinforcements for much of the summer and has added James Ness and Greg Leigh on loan since the season started. After making a disappointing start to the new campaign, the Alex boss admits he is looking for reinforcements in most positions to help his young squad.

Steve told crewealex.net: “We will continue to have a look out there to see what is available and what we can afford to bring into the Football Club. I am looking for players who have produced it at this level, who can help us.

“Perhaps they have gone out on loan at this level before and done well. I am looking for reinforcements all over the pitch. It isn’t just in the forward positions, it is at the back as well.

“We have Harry (Davis) back in the next few weeks and he will be welcomed back into the group. We have Jamie Ness making good progress and we will have Marcus and George back from International duty, so having a few back will certainly help us.

“Getting two or three in would also help us because I think the group needs some help now. Getting some new faces in would create that competition and we would hope that it would force others in the team to start performing to their potential.

“Perhaps some of them believe that they are automatic picks at the moment and bringing two or three in would shake them up a bit.

The boss added: “It is about getting the right people in and the right players. Some of them will be ones we know about and we will continue to work hard to do something about it.”
