We Will Continue To Be Cautious With George

Steve says it is wrong to rely on 17-year-old George Cooper too much

Steve Davis has told crewealex.net that he will continue to be cautious with 17-year-old starlet George Cooper. Following impressive displays for the Elite Development squad and in training, the Warrington-based forward was handed his full professional debut against Bradford City at the weekend and he certainly showed that he is a player with real promise.

Cooper forced the Bradford goalkeeper Jordan Pickford into a good save with the scoreline still goalless and Davis left the teenager on until the end as we chased a 2-0 deficit late on.

Steve told crewealex.net: “George Cooper deserved his opportunity because he had put in consistent performances for the Under-21s and in training. He had a good pre-season and has continued to improve.

“He is ready technically and temperament wise, we just worry about him physically. He is still very young and we have to be careful with him.

“He has a terrific left foot and technical ability on the ball. He is a quick thinker on the pitch and I thought he had a good full debut for us.

He added: “What we need to realise with George is that he is making a big step up at a young age. We cannot expect too much too soon from him. He is not some sort of saviour and we will continue to be cautious with him. “
