Saunders Form Propels Him Into Squad

30 October 2014

Callum Saunders' ratio of a goal a game for the U-21s has caught bosses eye

Callum Saunders’ form for the club’s Development Squad has certainly caught the eye of first-team boss Steve Davis. The Wales Youth International scored his fourth goal in four games against Nottingham Forest’s Under-21s on Monday afternoon to propel himself back into the manager’s plans for this weekend’s trip to Crawley.

Saunders is now expected to travel in the squad and Davis admits that showing good form for the Development Squad and in training always gives you a chance.

Steve told crewealex.net: “Callum is in great scoring form for the 21s and that cannot be ignored. He is currently scoring a goal a game and that is all I can ask to see as a manager.

“I’ve always said that if players produce in the Development squad or are good in training then the chance is there for them.

“We always thought with Callum that it was just a question of him being physical enough for the League. He has worked hard on that part of that game and just needed a longer. Perhaps he still needs a bit longer but you cannot ignore his goal scoring ratio.

The boss added: “There are things he can improve upon such as his overall contribution in the game but his movement is always good and he creates chances with his clever runs. He is a bright young player and he scores goals.”
