"Players Have To Face Challenge Head On"

Steve Davis says chances running out for some of his players to show they are League One standard

Steve Davis admits that some of his players are running out of time to prove that they are good enough for League One football. The Alex looked to have turned the corner a little following a hard fought home win over close neighbours Port Vale and then following that up with a deserved point at Yeovil on the following Tuesday.

An emphatic defeat at the MK Dons was followed by successive home defeats by Colchester and Notts County and Davis has told the club’s official web-site that there comes a time when he will have to rebuild his team.

Ahead of this weekend’s trip to Bradford, Steve told crewealex.net: “I think I have given all the players a chance and we will continue to try and get the best from the group.

“But you cannot go on for ever waiting for some of them. There comes a point where you have to say that they are not going to do it at the level. You have to keep going with them as much as you can but you can’t wait for ever.

“I wanted to see a positive reaction against Notts County after what happened against Colchester but I didn’t get it the other night. If people are not prepared to run about or cannot run about then it is up to us to find those who will.

He added: “That could be from promoting some of the younger ones here or looking elsewhere. What I have to be is a little a bit careful with the younger players, physically, but I know that they wouldn’t be doing any worse even though they are inexperienced.”
