Boss targets better return of points following second win of the season

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis says that Saturday’s morale boosting win over Coventry City won’t count for too much unless we can build on that success. The Alex boss hailed the 2-1 win over the Sky Blues as a 'step in the right direction' but won’t be getting carried away after what happened following the results against Port Vale and Yeovil Town. Crewe picked up four points from two difficult games but were heavily beaten 6-1 at MK Dons in their next outing.

The Alex boss was delighted with his side’s work ethic and performance against Coventry at the weekend but he was quickly stressed the importance of building on it.

game to get a second one. That is far too long but there were signs from Bradford the previous week.thSteve told crewealex.net: “We had been saying for the last three or four games that we needed to get that next win and we had to wait until the 12

“We took the positives from the Bradford game and we were much better. Now we have to build on that.

“We still need points and the Coventry game is a start. We need more performances like that where the intensity and quality of our play is high. The crowd really saw that and got behind us.”

He added: “We could sense in the week running up to the game that the players were ready. They felt they could go out at home and beat Coventry and we got off a good start and that helped us.”
