Davis: "I Could Change Again"

15 October 2014

Steve Davis says he is not afraid to change his starting line-up or the tactics used against Coventry

Steve Davis has told the club’s official web-site that he would not be afraid to change his formation or personnel for this weekend’s trip to Walsall. The Alex boss has certainly been flexible with his tactics this season and without his main target man Marcus Haber against Coventry City last week, he deployed a wing-back system to surprise the Sky Blues.

With Haber available again following his appearance for Canada in New Jersey, the Alex boss could yet change his formation to incorporate his leading scorer again. He certainly has options available to him with only Ryan Colclough ruled out as he continues to return from his longstanding hip and hernia problem.

Defender Harry Davis could yet travel to the Midlands after successfully completing 90 minutes for the club’s Development squad against Swansea on Monday evening.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “We have to try and get any little advantage we can and changing the way we play can do that. It certainly worked against Coventry where we were without Marcus. We played without a main striker really and went with three smaller ones. I think that took them by surprise a bit and they quickly changed to 4-4-2.

“I have options to change again and I’ve changed a winning team before and I am prepared to do that again if I think it is right for the team and enhances our chances of getting a result.

“The players have shown that they can adapt to different systems and that gives us scope to change things game-to-game or as we did at Bradford during the game.”
