Steve Davis says teenager is becoming a key player for us

Steve Davis says that 17-year-old George Cooper will only get better with more experience. The Warrington-born youngster marked his full home debut for the club with a stunning free-kick to put Crewe Alexandra 2-0 up and on their way to a second win of the season against Coventry.

Cooper, 17, certainly built on his full debut at Bradford last weekend and Davis admits that the teenager is justifying his inclusion in the Crewe starting line-up.

Steve told “George improved on what he did at Bradford and I thought he did well on his debut.

“He went up a notch again against Coventry and we know he has qualities. He has two good feet and has the confidence to run at players.

“George is also offering us something different from corners and free-kicks. He was out there practicing his free-kicks and I was delighted it paid off for him.

The boss added: “He is becoming an important player for us and is showing everyone that he belongs out there.”
