Trip to North East in third round of competition

Crewe Alexandra U21's head to Newcastle United tonight in the Third Round of the U21 Barclays Premier League Cup.

The Alex qualified directly to this stage of the competition after winning the U21 Development League 2 last season, beating QPR 1-0 in the Final at Loftus Road.

The match will be played at the Northumberland FA pitches in Whitley this evening with a 7pm kick-off.

Several Newcastle United stars who have appeared in the Premier League this season are set to feature, so it will prove to be a tough test for James Collins' side. But if the Alex can cause an upset, it will see them through to the last 16 of the competition.
