Virus taken its toll on Crewe skipper
Club captain Matt Tootle will miss this weekend’s FA Cup first round encounter with Sheffield United after a recent flu virus took its toll. Midfield players Anthony Grant and Chris Atkinson have also been affected by the illness over the last couple of weeks but are fine now and have trained.
November.
thTootle is getting better daily and is expected to return to the club next week ahead of our home fixture against Chesterfield on 15
Steve Davis told the club’s official web-site: “Matt is improving but the virus has taken a lot out of him and he hasn’t trained. He should be in next week ahead of the Chesterfield game.
“We have options in defence and other than Liam Nolan and Ryan (Colclough) everyone else is fit and available.
“We are without Febian and Danny (Haynes) as their clubs do not want them to be cup-tied and I understand that. Their parent clubs may progress in the competition and they may be recalled to play a part later on in the competition.
“We ask if they are allowed to play in the cup competitions. We can usually get permission for the Johnnstone’s Paint Trophy and the Capital One Cup but the FA Cup is often different.”
