Still Have Four To Choose From

17 November 2014

Boss loses strike trio but says door will open for others.

With the on-loan Danny Haynes and Febian Brandy unavailable and Marcus Haber away on International duty with Canada for the FA Cup replay at Sheffield United tomorrow night, Steve Davis says he will utilise the four remaining strikers he has at his disposal.

The Alex boss still has Brad Inman, Billy Waters and first year professionals George Cooper and Callum Saunders available for selection for the trip to Bramall Lane as Crewe looking for a solution for a barren run in front of goal. Although we have been able to keep four clean-sheets out of the previous six matches, we have also only scored three goals at the other end.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “We have worked really hard to become tighter at the back but we are not getting enough goals. It is what we have been concentrating on, to become more of a threat in the final third of the pitch.

“We are without Danny, Feb and Marcus tomorrow night and that limits our options, but it also mean that others will get their chance.

“We still have Brad, Billy, George Cooper and Callum Saunders and I will look to utilise those four as best I can.

He added: “When it comes to a cup tie, the most important thing is to get through. It doesn’t particularly how you do it because the most important thing is to make sure you are in the hat for the next round.”
