Steve: "Draw Was Right"

29 November 2014

Alex boss gives his post-match reaction after 1-1 draw.

Alex boss Steve Davis felt a point apiece was a fair reflection of today's entertaining encounter at the Alexandra Stadium. Crewe were ten minutes away from clinching all three points thanks to Uche Ikpeazu's opening goal on his return to Crewe, but Doncaster's captain James Coppinger was in the right place to convert a loose ball at a corner.

After a really good 90 minutes of football at Gresty Road, Steve Davis told the club's official web-site: “I thought it was a good game. It was an exciting one and I think the supporters would’ve enjoyed it. They started brighter than us first ten minutes or so and then we got ourselves into the game and attacked with real intent and caused them quite a lot of problems.

“If we could’ve got a second goal during that period then I think we would’ve gone on to win the game but at 1-0 there’s always a chance they can get back in the game.

“I thought we were excellent today, especially in the first half. Second half we just couldn’t sustain the level of energy. It was sapped very quickly and then they got on top a little bit.

“We played some terrific football at times and if we keep doing what we did today, we should be okay. There were a lot of promising things today.

“Maybe a point was fair in the end. They had a lot of pressure without creating any chances and the goal coming from a set-play.

He added: “Last week was a blip, we played well today and we fully deserved what we got from it in the end.”
