Crewe's development squad lose 2-1 to Newcastle after extra-time

The Alex qualified directly to this stage of the competition after winning the U21 Development League 2 last season, beating QPR 1-0 in the Final at Loftus Road.

James Collins' Under-21 side were beaten 2-1 after extra-time by Newcastle United. Crewe Alexandra's goal was scored by George Cooper in the 70th minutes but the Railwaymen exit at the Third Round stage of the U21 Barclays Premier League Cup after Callum Roberts scored twice for the home side.
