Haber Missing 'Not Ideal'

12 November 2014

Crewe without International striker for next two games

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis admits that it is 'not ideal' to lose his leading scorer Marcus Haber for this weekend’s League One clash against Chesterfield and then the club’s replay against Sheffield United in the FA Cup on Tuesday night.

Haber has scored four goals this season and started against Sheffield United in the FA Cup first round on Saturday before flying out to join Canada ahead of their encounter with Panama on 18th November.

Davis is disappointed that he will be without Haber for our next two fixtures but he understands the striker’s desire to be a part of the Gold Cup in the summer.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “The last conversation I had with Marcus he wanted to be involved with the Gold Cup coming up in the summer. He wants to be involved so he has to play in the game to be involved in that.

“It wasn’t so many weeks ago that he was away again, I think we have missed him for 24 days and this will take it over a month of not being able to contribute to the squad which is too long a time for me.

“It’s not ideal but it’s very difficult to come to some sort of agreement with them being so far away.

“With England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland it’s not a problem, it’s the longer ones like we had with Pogs and Guinea with the fatigue that’s attached to the amount of time they’re away, attached to the travelling and that becomes the problem.”
