Boss pleased with youngsters temperament in FA Cup display
Steve Davis says that none of his young players will get carried away after showing what they can do at first team level in recent weeks. Teenager George Cooper has certainly held his own at first-team level and already has two goals to his name after outstanding strikes against Coventry City and Crawley.
Right full-back James Baillie has shown that he can be an able deputy to captain Matt Tootle and midfielder James Jones certainly caught the eye with his second half performance against Sheffield United in the FA Cup. Jones played on the right with Baillie overlapping when he could and the Scotland Youth International showed great composure on his home debut for the club following his cameo against Crawley the previous week.
Alex boss Steve Davis told crewealex.net: “Playing in the FA Cup is a great experience for our younger players. Without the pressure of league points at stake, you just hope they can relax a little and play their game.
“They did that and were fine again. They faced a very good team, one of the best at our level, and were not fazed by it. They would have only benefitted from the experience and it will only help them when it comes around again.
He added: “They are all eager to learn and improve and they will continue to work hard. They won’t be getting carried away because they have made a few appearances and we will help them along the way as much as we can.”
