Davis Impressed By Poacher Doyle

14 November 2014

Eoin Doyle has scored 17 goals in 18 games and will certainly provide a test for Crewe's improving defence

An in-form Crewe Alexandra defence will have to try and keep the country’s leading marksman Eoin Doyle quiet at Gresty Road tomorrow. The prolific Irishman has been in exceptional form this season, scoring a superb 17 goals in 18 games for Chesterfield.

Steve Davis has been stressing the importance of having that type of clinical finisher in your team and says that Paul Cook is lucky to have him in his ranks.

Ahead of this weekend’s home game against Chesterfield, Steve told crewealex.net: “Eoin has made a great start to the season and I’ve seen his goals on television. He is a real goal poacher and he scores all types of goals.

“He is that type of player who really comes alive inside the opposition penalty area. He is quickly on his toes and takes chances. He is nice and bright and every team would like a goal scorer like that in their team.

“He is a real honest lad; he works hard for the team. He is prepared to run the channels and is positive. The stats don’t lie and he is up there in the goal scoring charts for a reason.

He added: “We have been performing better over the last few weeks though and have certainly tightened up more at the back, so it will be an interesting contest.”
