Che Will Get Chance At Sheffield

Steve disappointed to lose out on Che Adams but says he will get chance under Clough

Although he was disappointed to lose out on signing young prospect Che Adams, Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis says that the former Ilkeston striker has joined a good club. Davis takes his Crewe side to Adams’ new club for tonight’s FA Cup replay at Bramall Lane and he is pleased that Adams has chosen a club that is willing to give youngsters a chance.

Davis voiced his own concerns last week that the non-league talent could get lost in the system if he made the wrong choice, but Davis says that he will certainly get his chance under Nigel Clough at Sheffield United.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “We were disappointed to miss out on Che but he has joined a good club. He has joined a big club, especially in our division.

“Nigel (Clough) is always prepared to give young players a chance and he takes a keen interest in his Development Squad, so Che should get those opportunities at Sheffield United. It is a good move for him because he has joined a manager who will give him a chance.

“I am sure that financially he went beyond us in the end. I’m sure Ilkeston got the best deal they could and we wish him well.

“We move on from that one and will continue to look at the non-league because there are good players at that level. We are always out looking at players who are doing well or who have been recommended to us.

He added: “When you assess those young players, it is important to look at their background and know a bit about their personality and attitude. “
