We Would Love To Sign Chuks

27 May 2014

Neil Baker says Arsenal starlet would top their wish list.

Crewe Alexandra’s assistant manager Neil Baker says he would love to sign Chuks Aneke if he was to become available by Arsenal this summer. The 20-year-old forward scored 17 goals for the Railwaymen last season and played an integral part in the club preserving their League One status.

Aneke’s performances saw him emerge a close runner-up to Matt Tootle for the player-of-the-year accolade at the end of season awards evening.

Baker fears that Aneke’s form for Crewe over the last two seasons of his loan could now see him attract interest from club’s higher up the football pyramid.

Baker told crewealex.net: “Some of our loan signings did well for us last season and played their part in keeping us in the league. Chuks did arguably more than anyone with the goals he scored and when I looked at all the goals at the end-of-season awards he was either scoring them or making them. He was always involved.

“He was a real success for me and Uche (Ikpeazu) scored some important goals. He wasn’t always pleasing on the eye but he gave us some real power and strength.

“We would love to sign Chuks. He would be top of our list but in reality who knows what will happen with him. He has had a really good season for us and I think we have helped him as well. We have found him his ideal position and I know he enjoyed it here but as for signing him I’m not sure.

“He may be beyond us but we want him to have a great career because he helped us and is a terrific lad to work with it. He has worked hard and really bought in to what we do here. I’m sure we would face competition if he was to become available.”
