U18: Alex Lose Final On Pens After Thriller

3 May 2014

A brave and spirited Crewe Alexandra U18 side were denied the opportunity to lift the Under 18’s Play-Off trophy after losing on penalties to Huddersfield at the John Smiths’ Stadium.

The match finished 3-3 after normal time, with the Terriers equalising late on after the Alex had led 3-2.

The home side opened the scoring in the first-half before the Railwaymen leveled just before the break. A frantic second half saw both sides dispatch penalties before the late drama took it to an extra half hour.

The sides remained locked through extra time and the game raced on to penalties. Callum Saunders had the kick to win the title for Crewe, but he missed and Huddersfield subsequently went on to edge it 6-5 on sudden death.

Congratulations to Alex Morris and his squad for their efforts this season and making it all the way to the final.
