Steve Davis on the positives and negatives of a difficult season
Steve Davis says he will take stock of last season’s campaign and will continue to learn from the mistakes that saw the club battling against relegation for much of the season. The Railwaymen were playing catch-up in the second half of the season following injuries to key player, off-the-field problems and loss of form. Thankfully, the character, spirit and talent of the group came through in the end and we survived the drop into League Two.
Steve Davis has always stressed that this season has been a stiff learning curve in his management career after tasting unprecedented success at Nantwich Town and then following his move to Crewe.
Steve told crewealex.net: “Everyone knows it was a difficult season for us and there were a lot of dark days. We had to change the players around and try and find a solution. We had to face the problem head on and we never gave up or stopped believing.
“There were many reasons behind our poor start to the season but we had a settled side in the last few months and our consistent run at the end saw us escape the bottom four.
“There were some plus points and positives to take from the season as well. There were some positive performances against some very good sides in this division and we had some young players really emerge into first team players. That was reflected in the end of season rewards.
“There were too many negatives for our liking and we were up against it, but we came through that adversity as a club and will be stronger for the experience.”
