Manager Steve Davis says he has tough decisions to make over out-of-contract stars

Steve Davis says discussions in regards to the club’s retain list will continue this week. The Alex boss has admitted that nothing was totally finalised until the club knew which division we would be playing in next season. Crewe confirmed their League One status with a superb 2-1 win over the play-off bound Preston North End at the weekend and now the Alex boss has said he has to conduct the worst part of the job when it comes to informing players that they will not be offered a new deal.

Steve told crewealex.net: “I have some decisions to make over certain players and it is not the nice part of the job, but those decisions have to be made and they are always done in the best interest of the club.

“We needed to know which division we would be playing in and that was only confirmed at the weekend. We have had numerous meetings and have discussed both scenarios, as to not to be caught out. Some we will be unable to keep and others we will do our best to.

“I don’t think there will be masses of players coming in and masses of them going out. We have offered professional deals to a number of scholars and they will add to the group. We have high hopes for them in the future but that is no to say that they are going to start pre-season in the team because they will need time to develop.

“The talks we are having are on going and I will speaking to face-to-face about the decisions we make. It is best to meet them and tell them either the good or bad news and it is the same every year.”
