Creative midfielder latest youngster to sign professional terms
Crewe Alexandra is delighted to announce that scholar James Jones has signed his first professional contract with the club. The 18-year-old from Winsford has followed his fellow Academy graduates Perry Ng, Fraser Murdoch and first year scholar George Cooper by signing professional terms with the club.
James has signed a two-year contract with an option for a third.
Jones, who has been at the Football Club from the age of seven, became a key figure for the Under-18s, the Youth Team and the Under-21s last season. He featured in the Development squad’s 1-0 win over Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road as Crewe lifted the U-21 Professional Development League Two Cup for the first time.
He also appeared in the Under-18 final as Crewe sadly lost on a penalty shoot-out to Huddersfield Town after a thrilling 3-3 draw. He also appeared in pre-season for the first-team.
The skilful midfielder has also shown his leadership qualities when captaining the Youth Team and Under-18s. The creative playmaker has an outstanding range of passing and an eye for goal. He is also a dead-ball specialist at both free-kicks and penalties.
Like his young team-mates, James has continued his conditioning work at the Training Ground in readiness for the pre-season and training with the first-team squad.
