Boss says balance between attractive football and winning games has to right
Steve Davis says he will strive to get the right balance between attacking football and being difficult to beat. The Alex boss was reasonably pleased with some of the performances last season but appreciates that his side could play some more football at times. It is getting that balance right between exciting football and winning football matches in a tough league.
Any manager will tell you that you can only play to the strengths of your players and with Luke Murphy moving on to Leeds last summer, the Alex midfield did struggle to replace their influential captain in relation to his creativity with the football. That is only natural and Davis has earmarked another midfield player as one of his targets this summer.
Steve told crewealex.net: “I was relatively pleased with some of our performances and there were positives to take from them, especially in the second half of the season but I know we could have played more football at times as well.
“We were determined to stay in this league and that meant we had to get results by any means possible. We could have produced more quality in the final third at times but there are no easy games in this league and it is tough.
“It is all about getting that balance right between playing attractive football and trying to get enough points. We have to improve in a lot of aspects and it will be important to get off to a better start.
Steve said: “If you look at Liverpool, they had an excellent season. They played a really open game and attacked teams. They scored over 100 goals but conceded 50. Manchester City scored over 100 and conceded 13 goals less and they ended up winning the league. It is about having the right balance.”
