Club confident that young goalkeeper will follow other youngsters and sign new deal
Crewe Alexandra remain hopeful that goalkeeper Ben Garratt will soon follow his young team-mate Liam Nolan by agreeing a new contract. The Shrewsbury-born stopper has been in exceptional form this season, making 26 appearances after displacing the veteran stopper Steve Phillips and the now departed Alan Martin back in December. Nolan penned a new two-year deal earlier this week.
Garratt, 20, has been offered a new one-year extension. He is not out of contract this summer.
Ahead of this weekend’s final game of the season, Ben told crewealex.net: “I was delighted to be offered a new one-year extension. To be rewarded for the way you are playing is very pleasing and I’m very grateful for the chances I have been given and the faith the manager and staff have shown in me.
“You always want security as a young player and ever since I was little I’ve seen players been given a chance to come through and play in the first-team. I really want to establish myself as the first choice goalkeeper here and keep on improving.”
