Decision To Be Made On JJ

Baker hoping to tie up deal with former Leek winger

Neil Baker says the club are ‘working on’ trying to tie up a deal with the promising winger John Johnston. The 19-year-old signed a short-term contract in January to join us from Leek Town but he was quickly loaned back to the Staffordshire club to continue his role in trying to win promotion.

The promising winger has continued to train with Crewe Alexandra and Baker says he is hopeful that something can be sorted out with Johnston and his representative to give him a chance of making it at a professional level.

Baker told the club’s official web-site: “JJ is out of contract in the summer because he only signed a short term deal so we could have real look at him. He has trained with us and played in some of our Under-21 games but he has been back at Leek.

“There have been times when he has been with us that he has really caught the eye and there is potential there. We are working on trying to sort something out with him.

“We will speak with John and his representative once they are back from their holidays and hopefully we will do something with him. He is the type of player from the non-league we could get.

“He is young and has something and there is something to work with, so we’ll just have to see. I’m not sure Steve (Davis) and James Collins have seen enough of him yet in a match situation to make that decision just yet.”
