Chuks happy to be leaving knowing Crewe will be in League One again next season
Arsenal starlet Chuks Aneke returned to his parent club after another successful loan period and the 20-year-old forward was just happy to returning to London with his adopted club safe from relegation.
Aneke returned to the Crewe squad for the final game of the season after serving a three-match ban for an alleged elbow on Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Richard Stearman. Boss Steve Davis made a big call to leave his leading goalscorer out of the starting XI but he called on the creative forward late on and saw him hit the crossbar with an unbelievable chip.
After helping the club secure safety, Aneke told crewealex.net: “We have had a long season and spent most of the time at the bottom of the league or in the bottom four, so to get out and stay out at the end is everything.
“We worked so hard as a team to get ourselves out of trouble and it was such a relief when we knew we were safe.
“I’ve really enjoyed my time at Crewe. Everyone knows that. I felt like one of their own players and I cannot thank everyone enough for all the support they gave me.”
Another scoring 17 goals this season, Aneke was runner-up to Matt Tootle for both player of the year awards on Sunday evening.
