game for the club against Coventry City tomorrow and Davis has praised the contribution his vice-captain has made this season. Davis has nothing for praise for one of his most consistent and versatile performers, he told crewealex.net: “Matt has been excellent this season and has been since I’ve been here. I was there for his debut at Northampton and he showed great character and just slotted straight in that day and he has got better and better.
“It is a tremendous achievement to have reached 200 games at the age of 23 and be has grown as a man and a player for us. He has improved and continues to want to improve. He is very contented at the moment, because he has always been his own worst critic.
“He is playing well, he is happy and you can see that in his performances. Matt is confident and he doesn’t make many mistakes. He has been terrific for us and I can only say that about a few this season. If I had eleven players like Matt Tootle we would certainly win more games than we would lose.
Steve added: “He has done a great job on both sides for us and previously in midfield when we were promoted. Mat has been a great servant and is an all-round good guy, who it is a pleasure to work with. “
