Boss praise for clincial finishing of Callum Wilson
Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis has praised the finishing of Callum Wilson after his two goals proved the difference on Saturday. The Coventry City striker reacted quickest when a Franck Moussa shot hit the foot of the post and he then took full advantage of a Byron Moore mistake to tuck away a one-on-one situation to seal the points on 81 minutes. Crewe were certainly unfortunate not to have collected something for their efforts, but Wilson’s finishing was the difference in an enthralling match.
Steve told the club’s official web-site: “Callum Wilson is one of the best finishers in the League. He is one of the best strikers at this level and his finishing won them the game.
“He was the major difference with the two goals he tucked away. He didn’t quite win the game for them on his own, but he went a long way to making that happen for them.
“We had some chances and some scrambles inside their box, but nothing could quite drop for us. Uche had one off the line and their goalkeeper (Joe Murphy) was certainly busier than Ben was during the game. We had to rely on an own goal and maybe all the goals had a bit of good fortune about them.
The boss added: “The first one hit the post and it fell to Wilson and then we let him go through for the second one when we were on top and looking the more likely side to score the next goal.”
