Matt Tootle to make his 200th appearance for the club tomorrow

Reliable full-back Matt Tootle will mark his 200th appearance for the club tomorrow after just four and half years in the first-team. The 23-year-old could well be wearing the captain’s armband to mark the milestone as well after developing into a leader on-and-off the pitch.

May. thThe former Academy graduate has arguably been the club’s most consistent player this season and is one of the favourites to be named as the supporters’ choice for Player-of-the-Season at the annual awards evening on Sunday, 4

Tootle is extremely proud to have reached the 200 games mark at such a young age and he is focussed on trying to mark the occasion with three points against Coventry City this weekend.

Tootle told Crewe Alex Player: “I am extremely proud to have reached 200 games in the four and half years I have been in the first-team squad. From a personal point of view it is a big achievement and something that I didn’t think I would have been doing so quickly when I made my debut at Northampton all those years ago.

“I have enjoyed some great success with the two victories at Wembley and from a personal level it has been a great honour to have come through and captained the team this season. I am honoured to be captain of this club when Abdul (Osman) isn’t playing.

“It is great to have reached the milestone and hopefully I will go on and surpass it. I feel I have playing well this season and I am just focussed on helping the club stay in League One.

“People have wrote us off but I can tell the supporters that we are all fighting for the cause and will be doing everything we can to make sure we are at this level again next season.”
