Steve Excited By Gills Test

Alex boss looking forward to test against Peter Taylor Gills

In the wake of last weekend’s disappointing performance against Oldham Athletic, Alex boss Steve Davis has contemplated making team changes for the trip to Gillingham. He will be forced into one with Harry Davis ruled out with a knee injury. Adam Dugdale appears the favourite to deputise at the Priestfield Stadium and will be looking to re-establish himself at centre-half for the remaining nine games of the campaign.

Davis know that it will be another tough assignment at the Priestfield Stadium this weekend, he told us: “They are all going to be tough games with clubs needing points to gain promotion, get into the play-offs or in case to remain in the league.

“Gillingham have been on a decent run of form of late and have got themselves away from danger but Peter (Taylor) will be aiming to get to 50 points as quickly as he can as well to make sure.

“They are a tough side to break down, especially in front of their own supporters. Peter is very experienced and always sets his team up accordingly to try and win the game.

“With a decent playing surface and both teams looking to play football and get a result it is a game we are looking forward to. On a better pitch we should play better football.

“The players know we will have to defend well, remain in the game and be better in the final third than we have been of late. We have a front four who can produce match winning performances for us and that is what we will be aiming for them to do.

“We are well capable of producing but will have to be tight and well organised at the back too because Gillingham have good players too.”
